FALL LAWN CARE TIPS |
LAWN MOWING and LAWN MOWER CARE
Continue to mow the lawn once a week. To allow better air circulation and enable more sunlight to get to the crown of the grass plant, lower your mower a notch. Just a reminder, never take off more than 1/3 of the height of grass. Also, keep those mower blades sharp!

PROPER LAWN WATERING
The Northeast part of Indiana is still suffering from the lack of rainfall. So continue to water your lawn as was mentioned in the summer tips. And don't forget to water your trees and shrubbery during these drought conditions.
FALL & WINTER LAWN FERTILIZATION
Fall is the single best time of the year to fertilize your lawn. This application will help promote new Roots and Rhizomes growth, thicken your lawn and replace much needed nutrients. In November, apply a specially formulated winterizing fertilizer that is higher in nitrogen. This fertilizer application will make the grass more winter hardy and help the lawn green up earlier next spring.

LAWN RENOVATION
Fall is also the best time to overseed bad areas in your lawn. You can use the 'scratch and seed' method or aerify these bad areas and apply seed and fertilizer. Aerifying pulls out soil cores, allowing better penetration of water, air and fertilizer. Overseeding after you aerify, the grass will come up strong, fast and with a good root system.
